Pet Friendly Tips to Celebrate Earth Day
Being sustainable with your dog is a great way to reduce your environmental and his Carbon PAWprint impact. Plus, the cleaner we are (and behave) the more pet friendly places we will have to enjoy with our best friend. Here are some tips to help you be sustainable with your dog:
- Adopt, Don’t Shop: If you’re thinking of getting a dog, consider adopting from a shelter or rescue organization rather than buying from a breeder. This helps reduce the demand for commercially bred puppies and gives a loving home to a dog in need.
- Choose Sustainable Dog Food: Look for dog food made from sustainable ingredients, preferably with minimal packaging. You can also consider making your own dog food using locally sourced, organic ingredients.
- Use Eco-Friendly Products: Opt for dog toys, beds, and other accessories made from sustainable materials such as organic cotton, hemp, or recycled materials. Avoid products with excessive packaging or made from non-biodegradable materials.
- Reduce Waste: Use biodegradable poop bags when cleaning up after your dog, or even better, compost their waste if possible. Avoid single-use plastic items like disposable water bottles or food containers.
- Choose Durable Gear: Invest in high-quality, durable dog gear such as collars, leashes, and harnesses that will last longer and reduce the need for replacements.
- Grooming: Choose grooming products that are eco-friendly and made from natural ingredients. Consider using a pet grooming service that uses environmentally friendly practices and products.
- Practice Responsible Waste Management: Dispose of pet waste properly to prevent contamination of water sources. Avoid flushing pet waste down the toilet, as it can contribute to water pollution. Picking up your dog’s poop is not only a way of taking care of all dogs, but to keep growing the pet friendly movement. More businesses will continue to welcome pets if we help them keep the space clean.
- Support Sustainable Brands: When purchasing dog products, look for brands that prioritize sustainability and ethical practices in their manufacturing processes.
- Limit Car Travel: Whenever possible, walk or bike with your dog instead of driving. This reduces your carbon footprint and provides both you and your dog with exercise.
- Spay or Neuter Your Dog: This helps prevent overpopulation and reduces the number of dogs in shelters.
Let’s all do our best and set a goal of implemrnting5/10 of the points listed above. Otherwise, the line to pee on tress will be very long
