If you love nature and want the rain forest experience you will love our place because of the ambiance, the tropical foliage, the views, the light, and the privacy. Our place is good for couples, business travelers, families (with kids), groups, and pets. Complete with everything you need to set up house. The space is especially inspiring for the artists and an excellent place to work. The space is also wheelchair friendly with plenty of rails, wide door access to house with a ramp.
View from our deck features plenty of foliage and a view of the Caribbean Sea. During a clear day, you can see St. Thomas behind Culebra Island. Full open kitchen with a new gas stove, double fridge and complete with everything for cooking. Side room dedicated as a pantry with side door wide enough for wheelchair access and has a concrete ramp. Wood deck with tables and BBQ grill. Master bed room with fan and adjoining bathroom that is open and handicap friendly, full closet, shelves and two desks. 2nd bedroom with air conditioner, full closet and two chests of drawers. Due to higher altitude, mountain temperature is cool especially at night. Sitting outside is wonderful in the evening.
We have a third bedroom, empty. If you need this bedroom please let us know and we can possibly give you access and an air mattress. We have a washing machine but the dryer needs repair so you will need to hang up your clothes on our lines. We have railed concrete stairs to roof but no rails along the roof edge. It has a nice view of the ocean and islands from up there but please no children allowed. Art Studio upstairs is not accessible at this time. We also have a workshop not accessible. Our boat is stored in the side yard.
Plenty of books to read and you are welcome to them any of the novels.
Interaction with guests
You will have Betsey on call for anything you might need. She can also lead you up to the house so you won’t have to find it on your own. We can provide you with directions and a map when you make the reservation. We are happy to help with information you would need to optimize your stay in Puerto Rico, in other words, we are familiar with all the nooks and crannies on the island.
We are surrounded by typical, simple, country people and they are mostly family related. They are friendly and delightful. Our neighbor has pigs, goats and chickens. An occasional iguana may come into the yard. Sometimes the church nearby is loud but the service will end at 9 PM. Since we have a gated, private road we maintain total privacy. Loud music not a problem.
Our place is up a winding road about 8 minutes from expressway 53. We are 10 minutes from Puerto del Rey, a major marina. We are 20 minutes from ferries to Cuelebra and Vieques Island. 20 minutes from bioluminescent bay and Seven Seas public beach or 20 minutes from Luquillo Beach, 35 minutes to Visitor’s Center of El Yunque National Forest. Approximately one hour from San Juan Airport and 10 minutes to the small airport to catch small planes to Vieques, Cuelebra or St. Thomas
Other things to note
Our place is in the country and in a rain forest so it does rain often. Roosters crow in the early morning while owls and coqui frogs sing at night. Restaurants are in Fajardo. Ceiba is a small town and quiet at night. Amigo grocery store is not far down the mountain, about 10 minutes. El Bohio, a mountain bar is just up the road and is friendly and a unique experience.
